ケルトの旋律によるアダージョ

ブルッフは厳密にはチェロ協奏曲を残していないが、4曲ある単一楽章の協奏曲はチェリストに親しまれ、特に「コル・ニドライ」はブルッフのチェロのための最も人気のある曲だが、他の曲も喜んで演奏され、頻繁に録音されている。

そのひとつが、1890年に作曲した「ケルトの旋律によるアダージョ」（作品56）である。この曲は、彼の多くの管弦楽作品と同様に、2つのセクションにそれぞれ民謡の旋律が使われている。最初の旋律はスコットランド、2番目の旋律はアイルランドである。

この「ケルトの旋律によるアダージョ」をベルギーの編曲家ヨリック・デ・ブルイカーが吹奏楽の伴奏でチェロ用に書き下ろした。

Though Max Bruch did not, strictly speaking, leave behind a cello concerto, cellists are nevertheless extremely grateful for the four singlemovement concertante pieces from his pen. Of course, ‘Kol Nidrei’ is Bruch's most popular composition for cello, but the other works are also played with pleasure and frequently recorded. One of these is the present ‘Adagio on Celtic Melodies’ (op. 56) which Bruch composed in 1890. Like many of his orchestral works, the piece uses a folk melody in each of its two sections. The first melody is Scottish (not Celtic at all!), the second is Irish.

Belgian arranger Yorick de Bruycker transcribed this ‘Adagio on Celtic Melodies’ for Cello with accompaniment of a Symphonic Band.
