Shaft～一筋の光
当時読んだ、魔女狩りをテーマにした書物に影響を受けた作品。ストーリー性の有る作品でもあり、運命を予感させる序章、平和な日常、突如起きた争い、絶望から救済へ、そして再び立ち上がっていくといった、5つの部分により構成されております。
私も進む道が見えなくなった時、音楽に対して真摯に取り組むバンドの姿によって救われた経験が有り、この物語を読んだ際に、何処かその時の自分と重なる様な感覚を覚え、そういったバンドの為に作品を提供させて戴きたいという一心から、本作を作曲致しました。そのためか、全体を通して思い入れの強い作品でもあります。
2006年夏に作曲。2008年北海道吹奏楽コンクール日胆地区大会に於いて、平井恵一氏指揮・苫小牧南高等学校吹奏楽部の演奏により、初演されました。(成田勤)

成田勤(Tsutomu Narita)
1984年1月14日、東京都八王子市生まれ。
幼少の頃よりピアノ、後に吹奏楽・合唱・ロックバンド等を経験。
16歳より作曲を独学で習得し、現在、フリーランスによる管弦楽・吹奏楽・室内楽・映像音楽に於ける作編曲活動を展開中。また、作曲家、植松伸夫氏の主催するバンド「EARTHBOUND PAPAS」にてキーボード・ギターを担当。国内や北米・アジア・ヨーロッパ等海外でのライブ活動やコンベンションへの参加等、演奏・講演活動も行なっている。
主な作品にshaft～一筋の光～（吹奏楽）、サクソフォン協奏曲「風の向かうところ」、Starlight Highway（トロンボーン3重奏）、グランブルーファ
ンタジー（ゲーム・アニメ:作編曲担当）等。

SHAFT：Composer: Tsutomu NARITA
This piece was inspired by a book about witch hunts that I had read at the time. It is a piece with a strong narrative structure that comprises five sections, including a prelude that hints at fate, followed by sections on peaceful everyday life, sudden conflicts, the route from despair to redemption, and finally, rebirth.
I had obtained the help I needed by being part of a band that took music very seriously when I was unable to see any way forward. When reading this story, I was reminded of what I had felt during those testing times and I decided to compose this piece with my sincere hope that I can create a work for bands like that. For this reason, this work has been imbued with my intense emotions throughout.
This piece was composed in the summer of 2006. It was premiered in the summer of 2008 at the Nittan preliminary round of the Hokkaido Regional Competition by Hokkaido TomakomaiMinami Highschool Wind Band under the direction of conductor Keiichi Hirai.
