“Swan Lake,” a masterpiece that is among the most popular ballet works, had a surprisingly negative reception at its premiere.
This ballet which is composed of an introduction and four acts was Tchaikovsky’s attempt to present the tragic love story of Prince Siegfried and Odette, who was transformed into a swan by the devil Rothbart in the original German fairytale. Although Swan Lake is Op. 20 in Tchaikovsky’s repertoire and one of his earlier works, it was composed during the same period as his Piano Concerto No. 1 when his career as a composer had started to gain traction. The tracks that make up Swan Lake are all extremely popular and the work as a whole can be considered a masterpiece.
This arrangement was commissioned by Mr. Tomoaki Kiryu, who was the advisor of Shiroko High School Band.
As this arrangement was written in a manner that would allow the original work’s tonality to shine through naturally, it is recommended for this piece to be performed without excessive power so that its sounds and tones can be fully expressed. This is an important point as orchestral renditions of Tchaikovsky’s works tend to be performed too forcefully.
The structure of this arrangement is as follows.・Act.1 No.1 SCENE・Act.3 No.18 SCENE・Act.4 No.29 FINALE
