The original piece is part of the suite "Three Ancient Capitals" that was composed for the Trombone Quartet Zipang. It captures my impressions during my visit to Meigetsuin (also known as the Hydrangea Temple) in Kamakura in June. When I stepped into the temple, I was immediately greeted by magnificent hydrangea flowers in full bloom all around me, slightly damp from the rain.
*As the original piece is in F minor, performing it with the oboe d'amore in A can lead to some complications due to the introduction of key signatures and accidentals. However, I have not transposed it in the hope of preserving the original feel of the piece.
In A, the second intervals of the quavers in the piano part depict the petals of the blooming hydrangeas. The melodies of the oboe d'amore and the righthand part of the piano in B complement each other as the piece progresses to C. Please pay attention to the acoustic balance between the parts and showcase the flow of the beautiful melody when performing the piece.
