土気シビックウインドオーケストラの23枚目のアルバム収録にあたり2019年に作曲された「Crossfire - November 22」（FML-0249）を、玉名女子高等学校の依頼により大幅に改訂し、コンクールでもカットなしで演奏できるよう凝縮。1963年11月22日から60年を経てもなお多くの不可解な謎を残し、数々の著作やドキュメンタリー、劇映画の題材になってきた世紀の大事件を音楽で描きました。

冒頭は讃美歌「God Be With You Till We Meet Again」にはじまり、謎と陰謀が渦巻くPrestoへ。ケネディの無念さを表現したGraveを経て、ケネディ氏の記憶の中をアメリカ国歌を演奏する軍楽隊が通過していく様子が走馬灯のように描かれ、強奏のコラールと細かいパッセージによって、希望や無念が入り混じった心情を表現し、再びテンポはPrestoとなって謎を残し、曲は幕を閉じます。

この版は、2024年に出版された「Crossfire 2023 ed. - November 22 J.F.K」（FML-0357）を元に、全日本吹奏楽コンクール小編成部門の編成を基準に、オーケストレーションを改訂したものです。（樽屋雅徳）

樽屋雅徳(Masanori Taruya)

1978年千葉県銚子市生まれ。武蔵野音楽大学音楽学部作曲学科卒業。佐藤博、宮本良樹各氏に師事。

フランスで吹奏楽曲「Ardent Overture」を出版。代表作として「絵のない絵本」「民衆を導く自由の女神」「マゼランの未知なる大陸への挑戦」「ラザロの復活」「マードックからの最後の手紙」などがある。

全国の吹奏楽団やマーチングバンドからの委嘱も数多く、その作品の多くが国内外問わず広く演奏され、日本でもっとも人気のある作曲家のひとりである。また、作曲・編曲の傍ら、吹奏楽指導やコンクール等の審査員、執筆活動などでも多くの成果を挙げている。

2004年～2018年まで銚子市立銚子高等学校の音楽監督を務めマーチングコンテストで全国大会へ、吹奏楽コンクールでは東関東大会、東日本大会へと導く。

現在はベルモンテウィンドオーケストラの指揮者・音楽監督を務め、指導者としても高い評価を受けている。

CROSSFIRE 2023 ED. - NOVEMBER 22 J.F.K (COMPOSERS CUT EDITION)

Composed in 2019 for the 23rd album of the Toke Civic Wind Orchestra, “Crossfire November 22” (FML0249) was later extensively revised at the request of Tamana Girls’ High School, resulting in a condensed version suitable for performance at competitions without any cuts. This work musically depicts one of the most significant events of the century―the assassination of John F. Kennedy―which, even sixty years after November 22, 1963, continues to leave many puzzling mysteries and has been the subject of numerous books, documentaries, and films.

The piece opens with the hymn “God Be With You Till We Meet Again,” leading into a Presto section swirling with intrigue and conspiracy. Following a Grave section that expresses Kennedy’s sense of regret, the music depicts, as if in a flashback, a military band playing the U.S. national anthem as it passes through Kennedy’s memories. Through a powerful chorale and intricate passages, the music conveys a mixture of hope and sorrow, returning once more to the Presto tempo, leaving mysteries unresolved as the piece comes to a close.

This version is based on “Crossfire 2023 ed. November 22 J.F.K” (FML0357), published in 2024, and features revised orchestration to suit the instrumentation standards of the All Japan Band Competition’s small ensemble division.
