天駆ける息吹

《天駆ける息吹（あまかけるいぶき）》は、雲南市立木次中学校吹奏楽部の委嘱により2025年に作曲され、顧問の西真紀先生の指揮により初演されました。その後、同校の全日本吹奏楽コンクール自由曲として演奏されています。この作品は出雲神話を中心に、当地の歴史や風土をイメージしながら構成されています。不穏な響きによる大蛇の存在や、人々の暮らし、たたら製鉄、スサノオノミコトとヤマタノオロチの対峙など、様々な情景を織り交ぜています。これらは構想された一つの物語ではありますが、奏者がそれぞれに自由な発想や世界を思い浮かべながら演奏して頂ければと思います。
この作品が生まれるきっかけとなったのは、以前に《カムイ》という作品を雲南市立木次中学校吹奏楽部が演奏してくださったことでした。そして、当時の顧問であった西山和志先生との出会いが、その後の大切なご縁へとつながっていきます。吹奏楽部顧問の交代の折に新顧問として西真紀先生をご紹介いただき、そこで今作が生まれる機会となりました。音楽には物語がありますが、その音楽が生まれるまでの道のりにもまた、一つの物語があります。まさにご縁の積み重ねの中から生まれた作品と言えます。

●和楽器の使用について
打楽器パートでは和楽器を用いていますが、代替可能な楽器も指定しています。各団体の編成や環境に応じて、自由に選択して演奏してください。また、和太鼓のパートはティンパニとの持ち替えを想定し、同一奏者が演奏するように指示していますが、和太鼓の用意が難しい場合にはティンパニのみでも演奏できるように書かれています。（江原大介）

Baritone Saxophone が不在の場合は Bass Clarinet で代用可能であり、両パートの併用も可能。

Timpaniと長胴太鼓は１人の奏者が持ち替えで演奏することが想定されています。しかし、長胴太鼓が用意できない場合はTimpaniの楽譜を演奏し続けてください。楽譜上には両方のパートに音がある箇所があるので、持ち替え可能であれば長胴太鼓の楽譜を演奏してください。

*Marimba と *Xylophone はどちらか1つで代用可。

江原大介(Daisuke Ehara)

1982年東京都生まれ。東京音楽大学卒業、桐朋学園大学研究科を経て東京芸術大学大学院修士課程修了。これまでに作曲を有馬礼子、池辺晋一郎、糀場富美子、権代敦彦、安良岡章夫の各氏に師事。第1回全日本吹奏楽連盟作曲コンクール第1位受賞。

クラシック、現代音楽を中心に作曲活動をしてきたが、2009年全日本吹奏楽コンクール課題曲「躍動する魂」の作曲以後、吹奏楽作品を多く作曲、各社より録音、出版されている。

BREATH OF MYTH

Breath of Myth was composed in 2025 on commission from the Wind Band of Kisuki Junior High School in Unnan City and was premiered under the direction of Ms. Maki Nishi. The work was subsequently performed by the same ensemble as their freechoice piece at the All Japan Band Competition.

This composition is structured around images drawn primarily from the Izumo myths, together with impressions of the region’s history and climate. Various scenes are interwoven throughout the piece: the ominous presence of the great serpent, the daily lives of the people, traditional tatara ironmaking, and the confrontation between SusanoonoMikoto and YamatanoOrochi. Although these elements form a conceived narrative, performers are encouraged to interpret the music freely, imagining their own stories and soundscapes as they play.

The opportunity to compose this work arose from an earlier connection with the same band, which had previously performed my piece Kamui. My meeting with their former director, Mr. Kazushi Nishiyama, led to a valued professional relationship. When Ms. Maki Nishi succeeded him as director, I was introduced to her, and this transition created the occasion for the present commission. Music contains stories within itself; at the same time, the path that leads to the creation of a work also tells a story. In this sense, Breath of Myth may be said to have emerged from a chain of meaningful connections.

Use of Traditional Japanese Instruments

Traditional Japanese instruments are employed in the percussion section, and alternative instruments are indicated where appropriate. Each ensemble may select suitable options according to its instrumentation and performance environment.

The wadaiko part is written with the assumption that it will be played by the same performer who plays timpani, with instrument changes as needed. However, if a wadaiko is not available, the work may be performed using timpani alone.
