This piece was composed on a commission from Aomori Prefectural Kuroishi High School.
The theme was the Tsugaru region, so it was written with the Nebuta and Neputa festivals in mind.
The bass rhythm represents the Neputa Festival’s distinctive rhythm which gradually changes to the 2, 4 and 8 beat notes of “Tsugaru no Kodo” (The Beats of Tsugaru) throughout the piece. The cheers from the dancers called “haneto” are another source of inspiration.
This piece is rather simple as far as expression goes, as it starts slowly then gradually speeds up, ending with a burst of excitement. Although the piece is simple, it’s been cleverly composed so as to never bore its audience and we hope anyone who performs it pays special attention to its changes in color.
