華やかさとあらゆる色彩を出せるように、長時間悩んだ末に書き進めた曲です。この曲はクラシックから受け継がれる書法に基づいて作曲されていますが、ポピュラーミュージックやジャズの要素も取り入れています。互いに入り組んだ声部や機動性を活かし、サクソフォンという楽器から得られる大きなエネルギーを発揮出来るように作曲しました。

曲は三楽章形式でそれぞれ特徴のある内容になっています。第一楽章は各パートが同期しながら展開していきます。渦のような音を表現するために、縦の響きが重要になっています。第二楽章は穏やかな海を漂う、まるで舟歌のような雰囲気を持っています。穏やかで雄大なイメージを表現する伴奏、その中から旋律が浮かび上がってくるような内容です。第三楽章は疾走感を重視し、ひたすら前へと突き進んでいきます。やがて、大きく高められたテンションは最高潮に達し、曲を閉じます。

演奏に際し、リズムキープが特に重要です。さらにパートの縦を揃えながらも、ジャズに使われるようなテンションコードの響きにも注意しながら音作りをしてください。そして、スピード感を出しながらより自然な動きで演奏できるように心がけてください。フレーズの中には細かく休符を置いてありますので、休符から生まれる音のエネルギーを感じてください。そして、高揚感と冷静さを合わせ持ちながら、より豊かな表現を目指してみてください。(江原大介)

This piece was commissioned by the University of Tokyo Saxophone Club and premiered at its 10thanniversary concert.

This piece took me a long time to write as I wanted to make sure the result was a piece that is lively and full of diverse emotions. While the piece was composed based on a classical style, I have also incorporated elements from popular music and jazz. I took advantage of the intricate interplay between the articulated notes and their dynamic flow to showcase the wonderful energy that the saxophone is capable of producing.

The piece comprises three movements, with the first movement featuring the synchronization between the different parts. The harmonic combination of notes reminiscent of the sound of a swirling vortex is the focus here. The second movement creates a barcarollelike atmosphere that evokes an image of boats drifting calmly in the sea. A melody gradually emerges from the accompaniment that creates a peaceful but powerful impression. The fastpaced third movement pushes forward relentlessly, with the rising tension culminating in a climax before the piece closes.

Maintaining the rhythm is especially important when performing this piece. Please pay attention to articulating the tension chords used in jazz music even as you focus on the harmony between the different instruments. Try to play with a more natural flow while maintaining a high tempo, and appreciate the energy of the sound created by the rests that have been carefully inserted between phrases. Finally, aim for an expressive sound while maintaining both excitement and a sense of calm.
