Based on a composition originally written for Mikuni Junior High School and arranged for an eightpiece ensemble, this rewritten version was commissioned by Osakan Philharmonic Winds, and is arranged for a small wind orchestra.
The teacher who originally commissioned the piece asked me to write a song in the style of the score of a Disney animated film, specifically requesting that the song have a romantic feel to its opening half, and a buoyant, jazzy feel to its latter half. The students at Mikuni Junior High School were given the challenge of coming up with a title. To my great delight, the students chose a title that perfectly fit the spirit of the music.
For the first half, my hope is that the musicians will see fit to apply agogic accents wherever they feel it is natural to do so, with the flow being the most important aspect of this section. As for the jazzy section covering the second half of the song, I envisioned an ensemble building itself upon a foundation provided by the movement of the bongos and congas. For greater insight into intonation, I recommend listening to authentic jazz performances.
