I had composed “Michi Kiboue” in the fall of 2012 as a commissioned piece for a special concert held by TOKE CIVIC Wind Orchestra as part of their efforts to pray for the recovery of the Tohoku region while performing in the area. When I was later asked to compose a commissioned piece for small ensembles for the Tohoku Band Directors’ Workshop held in February 2014, I thought of revisiting “Michi Kiboue” and improving it by making some changes to its instruments and structure. The result was this piece, which I have published under the title “The road to a bright future.”
When performing this piece, it is recommended for you to ensure that the parts that begin in a minor key before modulating to a major key are played effectively. The f and ff sections should not have an excessively aggressive tone, and it would be ideal if you can work out a tone that suits these parts.
