空と海の彼方へ（ポストカード付）

作曲にあたり、真紀さんが大好きだとよく話していらした高知の青い空と海の印象を描きたいと思い、それまで高知を訪れたことのなかった私は、東は室戸岬から西は足摺岬まであちこち旅して回りました。地元の美味しい食べ物や美しい風景にもたくさん巡り合い、私も高知の魅力に引き込まれました。
もう一つ、新曲の作曲に際し、真紀さんからはオーボエの派生楽器であるオーボエダモーレのために作曲して欲しいという強い要望をいただいておりました。オーボエよりもひと回り大きく、楽器を構えた時に体にフイットするこの楽器が好きなのだけれど、楽曲が少なく演奏する機会も少なくて、それが残念だというお話をよく聞いておりました。

この作品がオーボエダモーレを知るきっかけになってくださることを期待し、多くの方々に演奏していただけるようにと、オーボエはもちろん他の移調楽器のための楽譜もご用意いたしました。
高知での初演（ピアノは小佐井淑子氏）の後にも真紀さんとたびたび試演を繰り返し、現在の形となりました。文字通り三谷真紀さんとの共同制作作品が出来上がり、いよいよお披露目となるはずだったのですが、その日を待たず2021年2月、病により真紀さんは遠いところへ旅立ってしまいました。真紀さんが遺してくれたこの作品と、彼女のオーボエダモーレに対する想いを一人でも多くの方に知っていただきたい、それが私の願いです。（高嶋圭子）

BEYOND THE SKY AND THE SEA

This piece is my first original work for the oboe d'amore. I have been fortunate enough to have had many encounters with wonderful performers, from which new works have been spawned. My encounter with the oboist Maki Mitani led to the composition of this piece.

Shortly after we got to know each other, she was scheduled to perform at a concert in her hometown Kochi in December 2018, which gave us the opportunity to premiere this piece.

When composing this piece, I had wanted to depict the azure sky and sea of Kochi, which Maki had often told me that she loved. I had never been to Kochi before that, but this prompted me to travel all over the prefecture from Cape Muroto in the east to Cape Ashizuri in the west. I was able to enjoy many delicious local specialties and stunning landscapes, which endeared me to the beauty of Kochi.

When I was composing this piece, Maki made a strong request for me to write it for the oboe d'amore, a derivative of the oboe. I remember that she had often told me, "I love this instrument because it's a little bigger than the oboe and it fits my body when I'm holding it. Sadly, there are few pieces written for it and there's hardly any opportunity to play it, which is a shame."

I hope that this piece will present an opportunity for more people to learn about the oboe d'amore. I have also prepared the score for the oboe and other transposing instruments so that the piece can be performed by many people. The current version of this piece is the result of a series of demo performances I had with Maki after its premiere in Kochi (with Yoshiko Kosai on the piano).

As stated, this is a collaborative work with Maki Mitani that we had hoped to finally unveil, but unfortunately, Maki left us in February 2021 after an illness before we could do that. I hope that as many people as possible will get to know this piece that Maki has left behind and her thoughts on the oboe d'amore.
